# Cookie policy

> StarTrading sets two cookies. The theme cookie remembers your dark or light choice for one year. The session cookie keeps you logged in for 30 days. Neither tracks you across sites, and neither needs consent. Audience measurement is cookieless and anonymous. There is no advertising cookie and no consent banner because there is nothing to consent to.

## What a cookie is

A cookie is a small text file that a site stores in your browser and reads back on your next visit. Cookies that are necessary to provide a service you asked for do not require consent; cookies used for advertising or cross-site tracking do. StarTrading uses only the first kind.

No cookie is set before you choose a theme or log in. A visitor who only reads the site receives no cookie at all.

## Third-party cookies

None. The payment provider and the identity verification provider set their own cookies on their own pages during checkout and verification; those pages are covered by their own cookie policies, linked from the checkout and verification screens.

## Audience measurement

Audience measurement uses Umami, an open-source tool that we host ourselves on our own server: no cookie, no identifier stored in the browser, no data sent to a third party, and aggregate reports only (pages viewed, country, device, source of the visit, clicks on a few buttons such as the launch-list form). During a visit the browser also keeps, in session storage that disappears when the tab is closed, the site you came from, any campaign parameters in the link you clicked and the first page you opened; if you subscribe to the launch list or send us a message, that origin is recorded with it so we know which channels bring people to us.

## Local storage

The site does not use local storage or IndexedDB. The dashboard may store display preferences (column widths, chart settings) in your browser; they never leave it.

## How to control cookies

You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings. Blocking the session cookie prevents login; blocking the theme cookie only resets your theme choice on each visit. Deleting the theme cookie is the same as choosing “System” in the theme selector of the header.

## Changes

The version and date at the top of this page identify the current text. If we ever add a cookie that requires consent, we will ask for it before setting it and update this page.
